Hello Miss Irene!

That’s a great beach they’ve given us for $27 million. There’s a whole lot of anxious folks waiting to see how it holds up in the first test.

I’m reminded as my girls are playing in the shadow of the new Jennette’s Pier 24 hours before we’re supposed to start seeing some of the effects of Hurricane Irene that Psalm 91:1 says, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” I wish I could tell you I have perfect peace about this storm. I guess I did for that hour my girls were running through the water, building sandcastles and making faces to scare away Irene. But I don’t now. The path and intensity of this storm could be one of those nightmare scenarios I’ve heard about all my life. South to north category 3 or higher coming straight up the sound. Thank God she’s not going to be a 4 or a 5 but even a 3 on that track will mean monumental sound side flooding. I don’t understand the mentality of locals in low lying areas to hunker down and ride it out. Why? I’ve got a lot of family and friends that are doing just that and that adds to the stress. I can’t say much, I’ve only left for one in my whole life and that was Earl last year which really wasn’t that bad but my family comes before my pride. Maybe it’s a lot of hype and this won’t be that bad either but after Isabel why take the chance.

Ultimately, God is in control but that doesn’t mean these wonderful Outer Banks that I love won’t look a little different when we come home. Pass this along if you can and pray she weakens significantly if you will.
